Comment: A very, very bleak place. Because I had tried to hurt myself with the primary medication I had been taking for three years, they chose to switch me to a new medication, one that ran the risk of weight gain and increased risk of diabetes. As a fat person with familial history of diabetes, I was not told about these potential risks, despite being very open about my family history. It was very easy to fall through the cracks and to be ignored as a younger person without substance abuse issues. When I decided I was done being cooped up in what was, essentially, a hallway, they were all too ready to get rid of me–I had wanted to stay an extra day but they wanted me out by 4pm the day I suggested I was ready to leave.
Type of program (i.e. day program, inpatient): Inpatient
Any other identities/marginalizations (i.e. race/gender/sexuality) that could have influenced your stay?: I am transgender, and rather than deal with it in any transparent way (telling nurses my preferred name and pronouns), they stuck me in a private room, and it was obvious the nurses and other patients resented me for it, as they did not understand why I had been given a double to myself.
