Ohio Hospital for Psychiatry

Name of Hospital: Ohio Hospital for Psychiatry

City, State/Province, Country: Columbus, OH, USA

Number of Stars: 1

Comment: This hospital doesn’t even deserve one star and should be shut down immediately. I was admitted here against my will and never needed to be there in the first place. They put me in a holding unit for three days. I had to share a room with several other people, one of whom was on withdrawal from some form of hard drug and would steal my clothes and try to sleep in the same bed as other patients. The staff did nothing about this. When the staff did my laundry, they lost some of my clothes as well. The shower was in the same place they did laundry, so there was no privacy.

There was also nothing to do. No group or structured activity. We just sat in a cramped common room and watched TV all day. It was horrific. The food was terrible. The staff basically ignored us and were completely unhelpful. I didn’t see a doctor the entire time I was in this hospital. I was finally moved to a different unit in the hospital after three days, but this was still unhelpful, as there was still no group therapy.

The only up side was being able to talk to a social worker, who told me I would be able to be discharged later that day. When I was leaving, she changed her mind and said I couldn’t be discharged, and screamed at me, then my mom on the phone. My mom had to threaten a lawsuit for them to even let me out. This hospital is so bad that I will never again go to a ER in Columbus for mental health care for fear of being sent back here.
