Comment: They initially placed me in the “high risk” ward for a day even though I didn’t show any signs of violence to others or myself (I was in for major depression). After a day, I was put into the low risk ward. It took over 1 day to see the psychiatrist and there was absolutely nothing to do beside watch the one TV in the common area or play puzzles with missing pieces.
I was crying a lot because I was involuntarily committed on the weekend my mom was supposed to visit, but the other inpatients told me to stop because they wouldn’t let you out if you showed any signs of emotion. They wouldn’t let us go outside, trying to do small exercises like sit ups or jogging in place were extremely monitored, and the group sessions were horrible. The only redeeming quality was the intake nurse who calmed me down and would actually listen to me.
